He's going to try and clear out a nice big non-combustable area (an all-marble staircase, say) and make a small bonfire in the middle. He's going to start with a small pile to make sure smoke/sparks/whatever won't be a problem.

Method: He'll start with reading titles and authors on the spines to see if it's alphabetical, then start pulling groups of books down to see if they're grouped by subject. He'll be starting at the shelves closest to the door, if that makes a difference.
